Sorry, but this site is undergoing renovation, which unfortunately means most of the links on this page are broken. I'll be restoring them as soon as I get the pages converted over to the new look.

Barack Obama Rally In St. Louis (October 2008) - Senator Barack Obama held a huge rally under the Gateway Arch in St. Louis on 18 October 2008. The official crowd estimate was 100,000, tho some estimates were considerably higher. It's the first political rally I've ever attended, and the party atmosphere was infectious. In the photos I've posted, I've tried to capture not only the speakers at this rally, but also some of the events and reactions going on in the crowd.

Zion National Park, Utah (December 2006) - I visited Zion National Park between Xmas and New Years Eve, 2006. I focussed mostly on photography, although I did magage to get in a few hikes. Unfortunately, a series of snow storms, both before I arrived and while I was there, left most of the trails ice covered, so hiking up to the canyon rim or Angels Landing was out of the question. But the snow made for more dramatic photos, so I think I came out ahead. Click the link to see some photographs from the trip.

Yosemite National Park, California (October 2006) - I visited Yosemite National Park in late October, 2006, and had a great time seeing the sights, doing a few hikes, and photographing the famous (and not-so-famous) landmarks. I'd been to Yosemite once before, about 15 years ago, but was not too impressed. Mainly because that first visit was in the middle of July and it was wall to wall people. No matter where I went, I had to fight the crowds. This time around I made reservations for late October. I successfully avoided the crowds but missed out on all of the great waterfalls the park is known for. Oh well, I guess you can't have everything. Still, as I said, I had a great time, and definitely plan to return soon. Click the link to see photographs from the trip.

FIRST Robotics Competition, St. Louis Regional (March 2006) - The FIRST Robotics Competition is an international competition for high schoolers which uses robotics to motivate the students in math and the sciences. It's a team based contest, it's a carnival, and it's a social occasion for the kids and their parents, and everybody has a great time. I initially got involved a few years ago by volunteering to be one of the judges. For the past two years I've volunteered my services as the event photographer. St. Louis Zoo, Missouri (February 2006) - I bought a Nikon 18-200 VR lens shortly after Christmas to use as a lightweight walkabout lens. After my first outing with it, I have to say I wasn't very impressed. So I left it in my bag for about a month. February rolled around and I figured I should give it another try. So on a cold blustery Superbowl Sunday, I went to the zoo to give it a workout. What a difference a month makes. I'm reasonably impressed with the results. A few of the shots can be seen here.

Squaw Creek National Wildlife Refuge, Missouri (January 2006) - I took a weekend trip to Squaw Creek NWR in early January in the hope of getting some bald eagle photos. I'd heard there were almost 100 eagles on the refuge in late December, along with 50,000 or so snow geese. I'm glad I went. It's a very nice place for photography, with a 12 mile loop road and plenty of great wetlands to attract the wildlife. I definitely plan to visit it again in the future. This page contains a few of the shots from this trip.

Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming (September 2005) - In 2005, my best friend and I managed to squeeze in both a spring and a fall trip to Yellowstone, instead of our usual once a year visit. If only every year was like this :-) Like all of our visits to the park, our primary goal is wolf watching, and this trip was no exception. However, for most people the fall is all about the elk rut, or the elk mating season. Most of the photos on this page are about the rut, with a few landscapes thrown in for variety.

Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming (April 2005) - Every year, usually in the spring, my best friend and I make a pilgrimage to Yellowstone NP to see the wildlife and to renew old friendships. We never tire of going - there are always new things to see and do. Our primary goal is always to see the wolves, and so far we've been pretty successful. But while wolf watching, you also get to see a lot of other wildlife. This page contains a few shots of some of the other inhabitants of the park that we've been fortunate enough to see.

Little Ones - My best friend has a big heart, and over the years has rescued a number of animals from a variety of difficult situations. I call them the "Little Ones". I've photographed most of them on my visits, when I wasn't too busy playing with them. Many of them are unfortunately no longer with us and have moved on to the Rainbow Bridge, but they live on in our hearts. This is a collection of photos of some of the "Little Ones" I have known and loved over the years.
